George, I was also looking at the help system and did notice that I should have said "style" instead of "template". Absolutely good research on your part, and good point on the help system. However I know there's a way to make the "Word 2003" style the default for all future openings of all documents, and I think that it's still related to modifying the underlying template. I thought there was some place in the Word Options to do this, but haven't found it yet.
