Hi,
a couple of things. First of all, Jake's right about AVG paid and free being
the same. The paid version just offers more flexibility in some ways plus
the right to tech support by email. But it uses the same virus definitions
and heuristics, or however that's properly said.
Also, I'm running AVG (free edition) and windows Defender also, and I never
even imagined there would be a potential conflict of any sort, because as
far as I'm aware, Windows Defender is only the anti spyware part of that
whole Windows protection suite. Not an antivirus program.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one, but I'm pretty sure.

Hi Larry. I've got Windows Vista and I'm running both Windows Defender and
the free version of AVG. I'm not having any problems at all, with the
exception of here and there JAWS cutting off words for only a few seconds.
Not sure what causes this though. I think the free version of AVG is
basically identical to the paid-for version, but I could be wrong on that.

List,
Should Windows Defender that came with a Toshiba laptop having Vista be
running simultaneously with The paid for version of AVG? If not, what
intervention can this unsophisticated user effect? I'm attempting to
pinpoint why JAWS 9.0 loses focus and speach for 45 seconds, acts more
sluggish as time elapses and clips words. This happens in Microsoft Word
2003 and Windows Mail. Should anyone have a thought on this issue, kindly
contact me on or off list for some possible resolution. I would be very
much appreciative.
Best Wishes,
Larry
