Hi,
Ok, I just did a search in google on the general subject and did a quick
bit of reading on Casper.
Bottom line is, as long as your motherboard bios has the ability to boot
from USB, all will be fine.
Now you will need sighted help to do this.
You will have to go into your computers mother board bio, and find the
option for boot order, changing the boot order to your preference, i.e.,
1st boot device floppy
2nd boot device USB
3rd boot device c drive
Note, every brand of mother board has a different bios, so it is
difficult to give you specific instructions on this.
Now after you have changed your boot device order you should try booting
the computer with the USB external drive unplugged and make sure it
boots fine .
Now turn off your computer and plug back in the USB drive and reboot
your machine to see that it is booting on the external drive.
This does mean however that if you have a Casper backup scheduled you
will have to plug in your USB drive after you boot into windows, having
to have it unplugged so as to make sure your system is booting on the c
drive.
This is about the only way I can see how to get round your external
drive backup deal.
Sighted ppl can just leave the USB external drive permanently plugged in
, and just change the boot device order in bios as needed.
So if your motherboard does not have a USB boot device option, then its
impossible to boot on that external drive.
Windows xp can be installed onto an external drive as well, but you will
need sighted help for it.
Boot onto the xp cd, as soon as the blue screen appears hit f6, put in a
floppy disk with the drivers for your external drive into the drive, now
the drive should be recognized by the setup program , and the pair of
eyes should now have another drive to choose for the installation of xp.

Cheers, James

Good now what I need to do is boot to a External Hard Drive while using
the
Windows XP CD.
I have my Windows XP system copied to a external hard drive using Casper
and
if there is a hard failure or the OS gets Convoluted and won't boot from
the
C: drive I want to boot from the external hard drive.
I think I understand that Windows XP won't boot to a external drive. So
do you think that while booted from the Windows XP CD I can then when
offered the choice boot to or move to the external drive with fully
bootable
system and the copy system by Casper program and repair or replace the
entire OS and all of my hard drive information on the external hard
drive?
