Yes.  Do insert plus v to bring up the verbosity menu.  Then arrow down until 
you hear refresh content automatic and hit the space bar. That will turn this 
off. Then arrow down one more time until you hear refresh page automatic and 
hit space. That will turn that off. 

Unfortunately this is only temporary and when you go to a different site or 
reload this one, you'll need to do it again.
