The scripts can do pretty much anything that you can do with a keyboard input
or mouse input, including both PC functions and JAWS functions.
For example, if your application uses Alt plus F-8 to do something, you can
have that keystroke start a script which, in turn, passes the Alt plus F-8
through to the application and then perform follow-up commands such as press
the tab key, press the enter key, type text, read the line just typed, and then
do something else.
JAWS has a scripting manual, though as I remember, the function for sending
keystrokes isn't described very well or at least isn't described in the early
part of the manual.
Like you, I should think the most useful feature of scripts for ordinary users
would be to do the equivalent of a macro.
So, it is a little surprising that such functionality is buried rather deep in
the manual. I'm just a tinkerer when it comes to scripts. There are far, far
more accomplished script writers on this list who could give you chapter and
verse pretty much hot to do or how to find instructions for doling what you
want to do.

I have not had any experience with building scripts for Jaws.
Can one program commands that are windows commands in these scripts for Jaws?
Or are the functions just those that Jaws can do specifically?
Where is the best place to find out about Jaws scripts and how to write them?

JAWS does not have a key recording function or, actually, a macro function. It
does, however, have, as I'm sure you are aware, a powerful scripting language.
To be sure, it is not nearly as convenient as a key recorder or macro function,
but it can accomplish exactly the same thing.
If all you want to do is record a series of keystrokes, you can do that in JAWS
scripts, and those can apply to any application or all applications.
The scripts, in many ways, are better than macros in that you can cause the
macro to stop and wait for input and then move on.
There used to be a product called Window Bridge which I loved. It had one of
the best, and most powerful, macro features I've ever seen. I miss that.

So you don't know of an accessible Macro that just sends the simple key
combinations to the computer?
I'd think that a Macro that just sends key combinations to the computer would
be simpler than programming for one specific application.
JFW doesn't have a Macro feature somewhere? I'd think this would be a very
useful thing, if people knew how to use it.
I find myself doing all kinds of repetitive tasks that I would love a simple
Macro to do and all using simple reproducible key commands.
I'll check download.com, but I really have no idea what I'm looking for.

Brandon: That looks like a micro you are looking for. However, macros only work
in certain programs. You can try OCR solutions like openbook. This program has
a print utility that sends the eselected text to openbook and performs OCR on
it. it also once it finishes it let you save the document as .DOC. I don't know
if this helps or not, but it sure helps me quite a it. Thanks to the fact that
all of my PDF's are supposed "protected" format... Apperently, they protected
against the mouse... Not against control shift commands and openbook.

Hello,
I'm wondering if there are any programs that I can get that will record a group
of commands that I press then all I need to do to execute those commands after
they're recorded is press a button.
For example:
I'm converting my textbook from PDF documents to Documents by:
down arrow to chapter 20 in my documents,
hit enter,
down arrow (sais I'd like to read the document left to right top to bottom)
enter,
wait 10 seconds,
hit ctrl A,
hit ctrl C,
alt tab twice (to get to a blank document)
hit ctrl V,
hit down arrow then left arrow once,
hit back space 4 times,
hit ctrl shift up arrow,
hit ctrl C,
hit ctrl S,
hit ctrl V,
hit ctrl N,
hit alt tab,
hit alt F4,
hit alt tab,
and down arrow to chapter 21 and repeat.
This is very repetitive and I would love to find a way that it will max take 15
seconds and I just need to hit a button every 15 seconds for the process to
begin again.
Please, any ideas will be greatly welcome!
