Hi Yardbird,Jarte is a free word processor based on the Wordpad platform that adds a few useful features like a built-in spell checker, the ability to easily create and save document templates, and the ability to save documents in Word or RTF formats. It works better with JAWS than any other free word processor I've examined, including Abiword, Atlantis Nova, Yeah Write, and Open Office. Unlike Ms Word 2007, its menus are straightforward and easy to navigate. It's a good alternative to Word for writing basic letters, reports and other documents that don't require a lot of sophisticated formatting. You can download Jarte from the following website:

Hi Gerald, What is this word processor you mention below? Is that spelled correctly? Where can I find information about it? And what are some of the others you say are available? I'm not familiar with any of this, and I'd like to know more. thanks.----- Original Message ----- From: "Gerald Levy" <bwaylimited@xxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, June 09, 2008 3:50 AM Subject: Re: PROBLEM WITH JAWS 9 IN WORD You don't have to put up with Word 2007. You can always download andinstall one of the free alternate word processors like Jarte which work wellwith JAWS.----- Original Message ----- From: "Erin" <erinandspenser@xxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, June 08, 2008 9:02 PM Subject: Re: PROBLEM WITH JAWS 9 IN WORDHi, Office 2007 has been changed a lot. For example, they now use ribbons. Jaws 9 and 2007 don't work all that great together, however, the lower versions of jaws don't seem to work at all. It will skip things, and mislead you. Unfortunately, we just have to deal with it until they fix it. I'm using Jaws 9 and Office 2007. When I am in Word Jaws reads (compatibility mode.) What does that mean? Jaws also skip words when I'm using my arrows. Example: He would read the word "hallo" twice, although the cursour is moving to the nex word. I tried to go to the "view" menu but I cannot find Normal view as usual. It seems to me that the menu bar looks different in Office 2007. Can somebody help me with the Jaws problem? I want to read word by word.
