Hi.
First, I'd have a look at
        http://www.premier-programming.com/PDF/pdfmagic.htm
Scansoft's PDF product sounds somewhat expensive. The best thing you
could do, though, is to get a demo of all programs and have a look at what
they do with your particular PDF files. PDF files, as you know, are quite
variable in their content. Have you thought of Fine Reader, Kurzweil,
Openbook, or Omnipage, which all convert files from PDF to OCRed text?

Subject: PDF Converter

ScanSoft, the people who sell Dragon Naturally Speaking and OmniPage,
have come out with a product called PDF Converter. It is being
advertised for the "special" introductory price of $99.00.
Has anyone tried it, and can anyone who has indicate whether it works,
in any respect, with JAWS?
It claims to convert just about anything into PDF (I wonder how well)
and to convert PDF files into Word files.
Since about 90% of the PDF files I get are turned into hash by MSAA,
Jaws, or something, this could be a very, very valuable tool -- if it
works.
Case in point. MSAA thinks just about every table is a columnar report
and, therefore, decolumnizes it, rendering the report completely
useless. What's worse, there is no way to turn it off. But, I have
complained about that before. Honestly, I am not always a complainer.
Anyway, if PDF Converter is smart enough to figure out that PDF tables
are not columns, the $99.00 would be a steal -- if it works with JAWS.
I suspect there is a money back guarantee, and I am tempted to buy it,
try it, and trash it -- if it doesn't work.
Right now, however, I don't really have the time.
Thanks to the experienced or at least the brave! <SMILE>
