I think the first place to look, for anyone who hasn't thought of it, is just to put up the main Jaws interface (Insert J) and go to the menu that allows you to make basic settings for speech rate, how much punctuation is to be spoken, and so forth. For anyone who isn't familiar with this interface as the primary interface and menus, before going to the configuration manager, this is where to start. Personally, once I set punctuation to "most" in that menu, I never have to mess with it again. Most is the level I want, for various personal reasons. But that does *not* have Jaws reading don't with the apostrophe. That's way over the top. It shouldn't come that way out of the box, so to speak. Not normal. For many people, like myself, Jaws works quite nicely with most of the default settings, and this is one of those areas where that holds true. If no one can help soon with this, call FS and just ask. The solution will probably be pretty simple. I can't imagine you'd have to go through a lot of hassle win Configuration manager making a bunch of sophisticated settings. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nermin Hasic" <voy44@xxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, August 14, 2006 1:39 PM Subject: Re: More on Pronunciation Issues with JAWS Hi Ray, have you checked the adjustment of punctuation in the Adjust Punctuation dialogue under "set options" in the configuration manager? JAWS will announce certain punctuation when the level is set to a preconfigured option. If I set JAWS to announce a period from punctuation level "most" onwards, every time I encounter a period, and the punctuation level is set acordingly, I will hear the period announced. Most and all would announce the period in this case. Play with this a bit, and see if it helps you. You can configure individual punctuation options for every sign that appears in the list. You will have to see wether the change was made in the default file, or the application specific one.
