You may just be triggering a security mechanism. If you do not touch
your keyboard for some period of time, your laptop may go into a power
management or security mode that requires you, before you continue, to
press control plus alt plus delete.
Then, you need to enter your password.
This, of course, applies only if you are using Windows 2000 or Windows
XP.
This feature threw me a curve initially.
The system is looking for keyboard activity. That is probably why it is
going into this mode. Both my laptop and my desktop do exactly what you
are describing.
It has nothing to do with JAWS.

Subject: Loosing Speech with Laptop

I am using the latest Jaws on a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows XP. I
often loose speech if the computer has been on for a while, I have to
totally reboot. This often happens when I have not been active on the
computer but also happens in the middle of reading a long word document.
Advice?
