It never even occurred to me that resolution and the state of the window size could effect how jaws measure the font. I thought Jaws got that info from the OS. I'm sure I have my display settings to the Jaws standard and window sizes either normal or maximized, I don't think the editors I'm using have zooming options. Oh well. That's the way it is. I find this particularly true in Microsoft Word 2007. I like the setting at 225%, filling up my entire screen (21.7" widescreen monitor), so I can, if not see the words, at least see white lines on a black background, making the creation of outlines easier. I'm never sure with Windows Mail or IE what the font size "really" is, but, from what I can gather, on my monitor it is spoken one to two points higher than it truly is. The best way to know how much JAWS is off on the font size is to do some experimentation. Create a Word document and set the font size differently on a few separate lines. Then ask JAWS what the font size is. Do this in Windows Mail as well. I suspect that the screen size and resolution, along with a window being in restored or maximized, or some tiny little gremlins are all the reasons why it's never reported the correct point size in Notepad. I do think that the correct point size is reported in MS-Word and MS-Excel, however - that's been my experience. I've just learned to ignore what it tells me in Notepad. It doesn't matter if it is Wordpad, Jarte or Notepad. I don't know about Word as I don't have it. If I setthe font to 10 in the app, Jaws says it's 13 when I check with jawskey+f. If I set to 12, Jaws says 15. Jaws has done this for a long time, through many versions and on many XP systems. One exception. Outlook Express: Jaws agrees about the font size. But, Jaws doesn't agree about the font name in OE. This paragraph is supposed to beVerdonna OH. Now they agree! Must be a problem in the font selector. I don't know? Bob One exception. Outlook Express: Jaws agrees about the font size. But, Jaws doesn't agree about the font name in OE. This paragraph is supposed to beVerdonna OH. Now they agree! Must be a problem in the font selector. I don't know? I copied that paragraph, and changed the font to arial while it was selected. It got changed to times new roman. Whats up? And the new typing is now verdonna! How's a blind person supposed to produce properly formatted material with this kind of mess? Maybe I didn't do something right in the OE font dialog. No, I selected arial again and still get verdonna. And the blank area is now times new roman.
