I'm sorry, I only found out the software from another list. I've only had it under two weeks.

Wow, when did that go PD? At least they didn't abandon the program, as
they did DisplayWrite in the early '90's. I've always found it ironic

that chased the automobile, and did not know what to do when he caught
it. They always gave great tech support though--the real platinum

I am trying IBM Lotus Symphony and it appears to work well. It's based
currently on Open Office 1, however the next major release will be based

on Open Office 3. The website is http://symphony.lotus.com. Note this
program, like OpenOffice, is free.

Hi, folks,

Has anyone on this list ever messed around with OpenOffice?
Http://www.openoffice.org It's a free, open source office suite made
by the same people that make Oracle. It has a word processor, a
spreadsheet, data base software, a graphics design software (not sure
about that one actually(, presentation softwre and a web design
feature. Saves stuff in all sorts of formats. Anyway, it apears to
have some hang-ups with Jaws even when the Java Access Bridge is
downloaded and the "use assistive technology with OpenOffice" function
is turned on in the accessibility tab.

Dialog boxes aren't readily apparent when you opoen them in any of the
apps, you have to use the Jaws cursor. Buttons in toolbars are not
labeled at all and don't seem to have tooltips to help you label them.
The spread sheet gives you virtually no information at all with
regard to what cell you are on. Tables and things don't seem to read
very well either. About all that does seem to read ok is the basic
editing and navigation of the word processor. You can read what
you've typed but, that's pretty much it.

Has anyone here had better luck with Jaws and this software? If so,
how did you configure Jaws to work better? Do you, perhaps have any
script files you may be willing to share or know where I might obtain
them?

Reason I'm messing around with this software is that we have MS Office
2002 at home and were talking about upgrading to something. Open
Office is free and saves into enough file formats that, if I could get
it to work, would eliminate the need to spend the five or seven
hundred bucks or so it takes to buy Office 2007.

Thanks all,
Alex
