Hi Everyone,

On GNOME + Ubuntu Linux + Orca Screen Reader, OpenOffice is extremely
accessible and responsive, so I do not think the inability of JAWS to work
properly with OpenOffice is because of OpenOffice -- I think it is just the
poor Java support of JAWS itself. Has anyone tried Windows Eyes with
OpenOffice?

With NVDA one gets close to the level of accessibility of the Linux + Orca
setup, but it is not perfect. Most noteably is the reading of lines in a
text document. When you have situations like when the text is not visible on
the screen, the first non visible line is sometimes not read, or when you
move from a heading style to a paragraph style, sometimes the first line is
not read and you have to go back to hear that.

Apart from that, NVDA works quite well with OpenOffice. The problem might be
with the JAB which you also need if you use NVDA.

OpenOffice is really a stellar set of programs that can do almost anything
office related, and do it well. It does not use ribbons or any such funny
navigation / menu frustrations, it uses plain old menus and once you master
the shortcuts you can operate the program very efficiently.

That's my 2 cents on the topic.

Kind regards,
Kerneels
