Jaws 8.0 not reading desktop Icons

I need some help, please, with the latest version of Jaws. I have tried
downloading it after trying the update feature. For some reason, it will no
longer read the icons on the desktop. I don't know what else it won't read
yet; however, icons on the desktop is one. I haven't changed any settings
and I have not done any merging. Any help would be appreciated.
