JAW's, Eloquence and Sound Cards?

Hi,
I run JFW 5.1, XP Home via Eloquence on a soundblaster Live Card. The Card
is now very very old and is making loud explosive popping and crackling
sounds, particularly when trying to read a fully loaded buffer of text that
is unpunctuated.
I've tried many many times to get the correct update drivers for the
Soundblaster, but with no success at all. Even the Techy at the local
Screwdriver Shop has had no success.
So, I'm contemplating getting a new and better sound card, but I'm aware
there's some issue with JAW's and sound cards that's to do with the number
of channels. That is, to hear both JAWS Eloquence voice and other system
sounds or music.
Is there any advice out there on what's a good high quality Card, that maybe
gives surround sound etc, but still happily works with JAW's Eloquence
voice?
