It happens automatically if they turn on a feature called "tracked
changes".  You'll need to turn it off by turning on the "tracked
changes" toolbar and "accepting all changes", which will remove the
record of all the changes and "finalize" the document.

If you can, get an ebook or a web page to fill you in on this Word
feature, it's especially handy when a document is being modified by
multiple sources.

Don't make the mistake our attorneys have sometimes done however, it
cannot/should not be used to try and produce a document in (I think it's
called legislative format), where you show official changes with
underlines and strikethroughs.  It may look like that on the screen, but
one person accepting the changes and they're all gone!! =20
