Norma,
The problem with what your suggesting is after you exited from "open Book"
you would not have any speech to navigate with. I'm sure many JAWS users
could get back into the verbosity dialogue and get the speech going again
but its so much less troublesome to let it happen automatically using sleep
mode.

Just curious here...could one accomplish the same thing by using Insert V
to change synthesizer speech to off. This would mean you could change on
the fly, which would perhaps be more convenient. If I am incorrect about
this, I would appreciate an explanation. And, of course, this would only
happen in versions which carry this feature, not sure when FS put this
feature into Jaws.
