Dear Dave,
I will assume you are using XP.
1. Bring up your menu bar
2. Right Arrow to FORMAT
3. Down arrow to Columns sub menu
4. Hit enter on this
5. The first item you will bring up will be width
6. hit enter on this
7. The first thing you will hear is "With 8.3"
8. back space this out, and put in the number you want
9. tab to O K and you will be thrown back into your worksheet.

Hello everyone:
I am using Excel 2003.
I want to create a spreadsheet with four columns.
The first column will contain text data, while the other three columns
will
contain numerical data.
My problem is that the default number of characters in a cell is nine, as
far as I know.
I need to expand the first cell of the first column in the table, so that
it
can take up to 20 characters of data, for example.
Either I have overlooked or missed something but I cannot seem to be able
to
achieve what I want.
Any suggestions will be most welcome.
