I think the which consumer report for august made good points about getting
into a store and getting hands on even the best they said had clipped of cursor
keys and some too close together and you need to feel around the board since I
assume you will not be using that bit of glass, I cannot use that, I rather
cheat since my laptop is only used around the home and can give me more comfort
with just a plug in board on my laptop and I put the laptop on a trolley, like
a tea trolley and push it round the house, you need a good wireless Router I
have netgear desktop is wired in having had huge amount of rain overnight my
Bt lines are a bit dodgey Dorothy

2.2 pounds or less? That's pretty light. Batteries alone can weigh in at 1
pound. You might want to consider a Notepad.

        Will,

w/r sound card and video card compatibility, that's a much better
question directed to Freedom Scientific. They should know, if anyone does.

Go for dual core processors. Frankly given what you described I'd
recommend a desktop. Get two hard drives, identical size,at least 1Tb and
server-class for reliability. Have one drive be a mirror of the other so that
you are always backing up everything you do.

Windows 7 Pro, and you might as well start working in 64-bit mode.

The biggest cause of failure in a PC is heat. That's why laptops often
have a shorter life -- it's hard to get all that heat out. Get a desktop with
large, slow-moving cooling fans and a dedicated fan for the processor, and at
least 50% more power supply than needed. All these will help immensely to get
the heat out of the cabinet.

All these fans and extra power capacity will likely add ~$200 to your
budget. 1Tb drives in server class are around $180 each. Expect to spend ~1800
or up depending on any DVD burners (also a good idea for data backup) and other
peripherals.

          Hi Joseph,

Thanks for your speedy replies. In the past I've heard people talk
about JFW not liking certain video and sound cards. Is this an issue anymore?

            Hi,
If you are looking for a laptop, try ones from companies such as
HP, toshiba, Gateway and so on. In my view, I would say a modest processor
(around 2 to 2.4 GHz), a modest RAM (around 2 to 4 GB) and a good sized hard
drive size (around 250 to 400 GB) and so forth. As for operating system, try
Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional. As for choice between 32-bit or 64-bit,
it is really up to you.
            Hope this helps.

            Hey Joseph,

Haha...good point. I'm primarily looking at laptops, though if
there's a
better option in desktops, I wouldn't rule that out either.

            Thanks,
            Will
