  HI,

They are named (actually), but the way Windows displays it may confuse
beginners. By default they are named "local disk". If you go to Control
Panel/System/Hardware/device Manager (using JAWS), you'll find what the model
and manufacturer of your drive is.

  Cheers,

  Joseph

joseph I have that graphics card on my laptop they must be very much used,
You say you are interested in hardwear and I am wondering why the Hardrive in
computers is not often mentioned? My last desktop died when I was downloading
windows 11 last November, it was an IBM Hitachi drive, but it had been sold
with a Western digital, they both died however but I do know the Western
digital was quieter, the company replaced it as my desktop was under
warrenty, but would not use a western digital, saying "the prices are to
volatile, incidentally I was downloading a version of Jaws each time the Hd
failed I am not blaming Jaws but the stress puton the machine at the time
finished it off,I did not ill treat the Desktop. my current dell desktop seems
full of goodies but I cannot find the name of the drive, does Dell put in their
own make? Inincidentally I was once told Seagate was called "stickygate no
doubt a rumour? --- Original Message -----

    Hi Will,

I heard it has been fixed somewhat. Personally, I'm not into graphics cards
- graphics is not my research field. I'm more towards system specs, mostly
hardware stuff and software accessibility. People say that NVIDIA cards works
good, as well as other ones out there. On my laptop, I have an Intel graphics
card which JfW handles well.

    Cheers,

    Joseph

    Hi Joseph,

Thanks for your speedy replies. In the past I've heard people talk about
JFW not liking certain video and sound cards. Is this an issue anymore?

    Hi,
If you are looking for a laptop, try ones from companies such as HP,
toshiba, Gateway and so on. In my view, I would say a modest processor (around
2 to 2.4 GHz), a modest RAM (around 2 to 4 GB) and a good sized hard drive size
(around 250 to 400 GB) and so forth. As for operating system, try Windows 7
Home Premium or Professional. As for choice between 32-bit or 64-bit, it is
really up to you.
    Hope this helps.

    Hey Joseph,

Haha...good point. I'm primarily looking at laptops, though if there's a
better option in desktops, I wouldn't rule that out either.

    Thanks,
    Will
