I'm impressed. You've managed to contribute to a potential flame war and completely blow right past any grey areas that might have been established so far as this list's actual topic is concerned, all in one post. And, all in spite of my asking you to drop this thread. Welcome to the moderated list, 2009 eddition. I'll resume this thread despite my feelings about the babies who either: 1. knew about the DAC 2. expected me to restore their vision so that they could read their CD covers If you are happy with your I pod or such this is not for you. If you have a moderate to highe end stereo system and, like me, are looking for an alternative to choosing CDs randomly or letting your S O do the selecting I highly recommend the use of a DAC and the other procedure which I described. I spent years looking for such a solution, considered learning Braille or using a bar code reader. I feel blessed that my brother sent me a reference to the article in the New York Times on this topic. I liked dealing with Sonus and give them the highest marks. The owner, Ron, can usually be reached on the phone after 1pm EST. I bought the most expensive of the three units they offered at the time. It was $450. It has an amplified head phone jack which with a pair of Sennheisers or the like yield exquisite sound quality. I put my head on the chopping block again for those of you with realistic expectations unfamiliar with this option. No responses to the list please. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of G-Dog Sent: Wednesday, January 07, 2009 11:44 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Audiophile? Let me make this clear. The issue here is the DAC. It isolates the noise of the computer from the playback. I have a system valued, retail, at about 50 K. I am talking audiophile. My friends are audiophiles and are quite impressed. If anyone to write me off list with serious interest, I'll be as helpful as I can. I'll not defend this on the list. If you don't like it, go pound sand. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Chris Smart Sent: Wednesday, January 07, 2009 9:32 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Audiophile? Jeffrey, that's it? you simply ripped your cd's and stored the files on an external Hard drive? I bet many people here are doing that already and yes, of course it's accessible.
