media player 9 works fine.  Exactly what is the problem?

Hi,
Can  one  use Media Player 7 or 8 with X P?
Are there tips  for  using Media Player 9?
People can write me off list, I will combine answers and repost them if that
would help.
Media 9 seems quite different from earlier players.
