Hello, John,
to have my computer show on the desktop,
1, start menu,
2, S for settings, enter, and enter on control panel.
3, press the letter D for display, press enter.
4, ctrl tab to the desktop page, and tab to customize, ... press enter.
5, now use your down arrow, until you hear my computer, if it's unchecked,
press spacebar, tab okay press enter.
tab okay again, press enter.
now there should be, a my computer icon on the desktop.

Go to Control Panel - Display - Desktop - Customise
Desktop - General
You will see various selections for My Documents, My
Computer etc.
Ensure that "My Computer" is selected.
