Thought so. I think I know what's happening.
Try pressing windows+insert+dash to go in to the script utility mode, arrow
down to no characters, press right arrow, and then turn off the jaws
scripting utility. I don't understand what those commands do, but I've
accidentally caused this behaviour before, and this fix worked. I'd be happy
to find out how those settings work.

Hi, it's Annabelle.
Recently, it seems I've run into a strange situation with JAWS. When I type
a character like n, rather than announce it as "enye", like it used to,
instead, it says something like, "Character 2 4 1". even when "Spell
Alphabetically" is on. How do I fix this?
