Unfortunately, even though I was satisfied with other databases, the
single alternative available is Microsoft Access 2007. For my home
purposes, I use Sqlite3 and I program it with Lua.
At work environment, users can create databases using Access, not more
than it. If I asked to install something different, the question would
be: "You wish another type of database, not using Access? If yes, you
want a system and a system need to be asked to developers. You need to
persuade your manager, your manager to persuade the director and the
director to enter with the development request. And the request should
be analysed in terms of priority, complexity, etc". In other words, if I
can't use Microsoft Access, I won't have the database to control the
projects.
I can create forms typing HTML tags in Notepad. I can really do it. When
creating a data access page, there is the option to import a HTML
document. So I can create and view forms in Access if I use data access
page. However, I was not able to connect controls to events. For
example, pressing a button, the page should present a report with the
return of a SQL query. I would write a macro in VBA and to define this
macro is fired when the button is pressed. When I use data access page,
this is what I can't do.
When I use the traditional Access forms, without HTML, I can connect
controls to events, but, in this case, I can't place controls on the form.

Two things to try.
1. I used to use a database called q& a, and found it easier than Access
or Excel. Not sure what it's like these days or if it's still available.
2. Have you tried using Dreamweaver? You might be able to create nice
looking, easy-to-use forms for both blind and sighted users and then import
that into Access. Or build an intranet database using Dreamweaver and mysql.
Been out of the loop for awhile, but I used to do lots with databases. So
I'm sure there's a way somewhere. May be it's as simple as writing better
scripts for Jaws to use Access.
Good luck! Like the long message hope it's the right answer. I've never
tried to answer before.
If anyone else reads this this is a great source for learning how to use
Jaws better.
