in practice though I think JAWS generally works well with the colour
settings left at default.
There is actually no need to change anything for JAWS to work quite well
though if you are used to windows 98 these settings do make the PC look more
familiar.

HJ recommends settings of windows standard colors, 256 colors and 800 x 600
screen resolution. To check or change these settings:
Go to your start menu, press s for settings, c for control panel, press d
until
you hear display and press enter. Control tab to the appearance tab and the
first combo box will be your color scheme. To find colors and resolution,
control tab to the settings tab. The first thing is a combo box for your
colors. It you tab there is a slider bar for screen area for your screen
resolution. Use the slider bar to set the percentage and then you have to
use
your jaws cursor to check the actual numbers below it.
