There are at least three ways you can read messages in windows messenger.

1. Press the ` key to read the last message. Press repeatedly in quick
succession to read the second to last and third to last message and so on.
The ` key is the key to the left of one on the numbers row.

2. You can press alt and any of the numbers on the numbers row to read any
of the last ten messages or so. It might be less than ten depending on the
Jaws version you have.

3. You can press tab twice to move to the conversation box and use the
cursor keys to move up and down the conversation text . Note before you
press tab once to move back to the edit box where you type a message make
sure you are at the bottom of the message box otherwise Jaws will not read
out messages automatically. You can do this quickly by pressing control and
end.

Finally I recommend you maximise each conversation window for best results
with jaws. You can do this by holding alt space together, then pressing the
X key.
Alt space is a keyboard short cut that takes the user to the close maximise
/ restore and minimise boxes that a sighted user sees at the top right of
each window. Once this is open X is the short cut key in this menu for
maximise.

I also recommend that you turn off Graphics as this allows Jaws to read the
different smilies people type.

Nigel
Are you getting the message?
