further to this: I have tried a repair on jaws. 

I can read the field with forms mode off, but, not when it is on. That is, if I 
press numpad plus, I can read what I have just typed.

  Jaws 5 announces complete field, eg. bbc, but, I can not place the cursor in 
the right position to edit this. Have tried bbc world service and google which 
were working before.
