[jaws-uk] Re: SIGHT AND SOUND PDF DOCUMENTS

Hi Wendy and rest of List,
I am running Jaws 9 (latest version) together with Adobe Reader 8. Having clicked on the products brochure within the Sight and Sound site I find that it opens and can be read by me.
However I am not a big fan of PDF documents as, even with the accessibility assistant within Adobe Reader, in my experience PDF documents are more problematic to navigate around, using Jaws than are word or HTML texts. In my view it is helpful if a site maintains both word and/or HTML versions of documents as these are, in general more easily navigable than are PDF documents.

I was trying to open yours from IE 6 and within your website.  I have
successfully done this on other sites.  I have also saved quite a few PDF
files to my hard drive, and successfully read them after launching Adobe
Reader 8. I also sometimes go through Windows Explorer, opening PDF files 
from there.
I have reading settings from left to right, top to bottom, and to read the 
whole document.

We do take considerable care to ensure that all of our pdf documents are
accessible. All of our documents are individually prepared and none of
them are just scanned in as images.

Could you let me know if you are opening the documents within your
browser or if you are opening pdf files that you have downloaded to your
machine?

surprised that Sight and Sound, a company supplying specialist equipment
and software to blind and partially sighted people, should produce
inaccessible documents.  I would be interested to know what they have to
say about this.

If anyone else on this list can access the documents I mentioned,
perhaps they could let us know.
