Hi,
to open the shut down dialog without the problem that you've noted, it to press
windows key + T to move to the first taskbar button, and then press alt + F4.

Yes you can do that, the problem however is that if you have JAWS in the
alt+tab order it is quite possible to shut this down by mistake if that
keystroke doesn't work first time.
