Ghosting - also called cloning - a hard drive is done best on a fresh and uncorrupted install of your operating system and software installed. I have a backup of my hd like this that has windows as it was wen it was newly installed in addition to MS Office, my screenreader and a few essential programs.

This said, I have not reinstalled - or restored - my operating system in like 3 1/2 years.

An accessible program to clone your hard drive is Image for Windows by Terabyte unlimited. This is commercial software, though. Several other options are available that vary in price and accessibility.

I wonder if someone on list who is knowledgeable maybe George can explain a bit about ghosting, there are times when it is the right thing to do. In my case I knew nothing about it I knew that 3 Engineers from the Makers had been under a three year on site warranty, this after a HD failure. first Engineer unknown to me put on XP Professional on my XP standard Pc, I couldn't register Jaws it not being professional I knew only it wouldn't work so bought a much higher version of Jaws one that did not have a floppy thinking floppy burnt out 2 more Engineers came all sent by company, things went from bad to worse I was using Jaws in demo Mode but struggling to tell the Jaws list what was happening. In the end it was spotted by a Rnib Volunteer Tony Berry now retired. I was sending messages to a friend long distance away about any word I heard engineer utter! Message was coming back saying NO, No Good that is Ghosting make them take it off and reformat. I will spare you all the rest as some who have been on list may well remember. I will leave out awful things like Interceptors and drivers, so if any person can just give an example of when Ghosting is right thing to do and when not, please do.Regards Dorothy
