Hi Jim

This might be very obvious but if it's really causing you a major headache, why not just copy and paste (or even manually copy) the questions into Word, or whatever, and fill in the answers in the new document? I have to use a lot of PDF application forms, as I work freelance, and if they don't work I just do what I have to to get the information entered and displayed, then return the form with a note explaining the difficulty. Sometimes it's not just an access issue but a matter of the people not understanding the software themselves. The other day I had one that would allow editing but wouldn't save changes. I did as I've suggested to you, and returned the form with the difficulty highlightted.

Sorry if this is all too obvious for words. I hope it helps.

Amie

Tristram,

To be fair to the company they require the form to be filled in via
handwriting but will accept forms in other formats. However, if they are a company that use PDF extensively then I could face problems if I do get the
job. Do you know anything about Acrobat Writer as mentioned in other
messages?

Jim

"A pdf file is a protected document normally, you can't edit it."

Actually that isn't strictly true, there are technicl provisions within
the format for you to fill out a PDF form, but it depends on the
document. Under the right circumstances you can fill out a PDF form
using JAWs and Adobe Reader.

However, I have not seen many of these and one that did encounter in the
wild and serious problems which meant that even though you could
theoretically fill it out it didn't really work, this was more down to
the forms product rather than the inate ability to fill it out.

The vast majority of PDF forms are designed to be printed out and filled
out by hand as far as I know.

Jim,

A pdf file is a protected document normally, you can't edit it.

I can't understand why it's being provided as an application form for a
post, but contact the source and tell them your problem. Umm, at least I

think I'm right here....

Cheers, Robin

Hi listers,

Is there a way of completing application forms on PDF documents. I've

tried
converting them to text files but the layout usually goes haywire.
This
is
making life very difficult when trying to apply for jobs and I can't
even
get past the first hurdle of the application form.

Jim Williams
