Hello, Linda. I assume what you are asking is whether it is possible to usethe speech recognition product from Dragon NaturallySpeaking with theSerotek system access program rather than using it with JAWS and J-Say. Theanswer is yes, but there is no special support such as what you find in J-Say. You can certainly dictate, but there will be no speak line, speak sentence, speak paragraph, indicate the status of the microphone, or anysuch other J-Say function you might use. Essentially you are on your own in terms of determining whether your microphone is on or off, and if you want aline spoken, you must use the keyboard to do this function. There is also no special accommodation for the correction box and many other things that we take for granted when using J-Say. The long and short is that you can certainly dictate into Dragon NaturallySpeaking with System Access , but there are none of the bills and whistles you have become accustomed to if you are a J-Say user. We couldn't get the J-Say Config window to come up (He would say "Get Wizard" and it recognized the command, but nothing happened). It worked before but for some reason wouldn't work this time. Can't figure out what the J-Say key is to bring it up manually (it's not the ` key). He's using a laptop. Is there another way to bring itup?Lori Russell Golden BC On 06/02/2013 7:18 AM, Ed. If this is a Win 7 laptop make sure that the 'onboard' mic has been disabled (this is a known Win 7 bug whereby the onboard mic isn't muted when an external mic is plugged in). In addition you may find that cycling the mic to 'true off' and back using Shift + f11 minimizes this less greater issue.-ed. -----Original Message----- From: j-say-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:j-say-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lori Russell Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2013 8:05 PM To: j-say@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [j-say list] Speaking contents of dictation box, etc. The young man I am currently help with J-Say/JAWS is a boy I worked withwhen he was in high school. At the time, we had JAWS/J-Say, etc. all set up perfectly .... unfortunately when he got a new laptop and new version of JAWS, his settings weren't transferred I don't think. His voice profile was transferred though.Prior, we had it set that when he said "Wake up", there would be a"dong!"sound to let him know it had responded. We have it set to echo his commands, but to be sure, he still has to say "Check microphone".Does anyone know how to set it so it makes a sound when awakening or goingto sleep? We have J-Say sounds enabled.Secondly, it keeps saying "less than, greater" when he isn't dictating butthe microphone is on (it's speaking what is showing in the dictation box). That's very distracting and annoying when he's trying to think about what to type. It didn't do that before. How do we change that?We have "echo commands" on, which is very helpful to him, and we had thatpreviously, but didn't have it saying "less than, greater" every second over and over. Thanks for any help!
