A "Disc Map inconsistent" error?

From the command line I used *desktop and managed to get to the
desktop in mode 28 and used DiscKnight to check and then repair the 9
problems it found.

On rebooting it appears to start ok and then gives the error message
"Please insert HardDisc4" and the floppy disc light is on. This is
before the pinboard appears.

Ah, if the disc map is corrupted, DiscKnight will restore its name from the boot record, which might not be the same as you were using previously. So any references to your disc name in !Boot will produce this message.

I cannot get to the command line by pressing F12 once the message
appears and nothing allows me to break out of it. If I reboot, I can
get a command line by pressing F12 several times just before the
message appears.

Press escape on rebooting to get to the desktop without running !Boot.

The icon bar at the bottom contains icons for:

on the left:
CD(:0) HardDisc Discs Floppy(:0) Apps RAM

Using the menu for the HardDisc icon, rename it to HardDisc4

If you have any more problems please contact me at DiscKnight@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Cheers
