I've tried this with a generic 8GB USB2 Pendrive. Everything
continues to work fine, but as you say, opening it, or dismounting
causes the Iyonix to lock up. I'm unclear as to why the Iyonix can
not address anything bigger than 2GB, as this rather spoils any
chance of an external hard drive.
