OK, now we've hit upon my area of expertise. Open ports are not so good
even in sailing. What you are really looking for is a port that is not
open to most wind directions. Now obviously it has to have an opening
somewhere so the best ports are open in the direction from which the
wind rarely comes and closed to all others. Furthermore, good ports
depend upon the depth therein. So when you combine a port with wind
direction and depth that's when you get a good port. If you simply have
an open port you can let all kinds of nasty weather in.

Kinda like firewall ports, eh?

Now Tom...
How would your sailorly daughter feel if she knew how you felt about
open ports?
Believe me, few things sound better to a sailor's ears than "open
port"..

>From the Windows 2003 Help File:

"To use Remote Assistance through a firewall
Remote Assistance uses the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to establish a
connection between a user requesting help and an assistant providing it.
The RDP uses TCP port 3389 for this connection. To allow users within an
organization to request help outside your organization using Remote
Assistance, port 3389 must be open at the firewall. To prohibit users
from requesting help outside the organization, this port should be
closed at the firewall."

...where is that dreaded Open Port[Patent Pending] button?...
