Didja look for events in the application event log?
Exactly how did you "uninstall" the SOCKS4 filter (read: not supported)?

Well, it compiles and appears to install OK because I can see it in the
list of add-ons. But there are no Properties to set and doing a
"netstat"
I don't see that port 1080 is active. I uninstalled the v4 filter of
course.

I'm guessing that your compile worked a little better...
