Web proxy logs are quite detailed on where content comes from. You'll see
UPSTREAM in the Object Source field if it came from your Squid (assuming you
have that field enabled). Most reporting tools look at this. It's an
indication of bandwidth consumption, cache performance, etc.

I can do that but because some of the content will be cached I don't know
how to get an accurate picture of the cost. Corporate charges us back on a
per Mb basis for info pulled from the internet.

Not that I know of, maybe someone else does. But, are users authenticating
against your ISA as well? If so can you just run the reports from the ISA
logs instead of Squid's?

Subject: [isalist] Passing basic authentication to upstream squid

I have an ISA server that has to authenticate by basic authentication to
an upstream squid. I have used the example in Tom's book on page 461 and
gotten it to work but this is an inappropriate solution for my
environment. I need to be able to get reports on internet chargebacks
from our coprorate office for each user at my site. So if I input a
single ID to be passed to the squid I can only tell how much that ID was
charged for the month. Is there anyway to set up basic pass-through
authentication to an upstream squid for every user that authenticates
against my proxy?
Thanks,
Kenny
