Pretty much; you'll want to place the .asf file in a folder that the WM
server understands; either the "HOME" folder or one beneath it. If you
use
a different folder, you should define it as a unicast publishing point.
Try to avoid creating a folder conflict, though;
mms://yourserver/folder/file.asf could resolve to either a folder named
"folder" under the home publishing point or a publishing point named
"folder". If you have a situation like this, the subfolder of "HOME"
gets
ignored and the "folder" publishing point gets the request . It's only
important if you want to segregate your streaming porn... 8-)

There is (was) a command-line utility called vidtoasf that would
convert
avi to asf for you, but it doesn't seem to be included in W2K..
You can get the WM8 encoding utility from:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/winmediatech40/wm8eu/8/w982kme/en
-us/
wm8eutil_setup.exe. I believe it replaces the old WMEv4 utilities.

I have an OT question on WMT servers. Is there a no-brainer method of
taking an .avi that I've created and slap it on a WMT server and have it

Does your book cover publishing WMT? Microsoft's only Q article on it
is about as clear as mud. I haven't had much luck on my own either.
I have tried many of the settings within the WMT application filter,
tried to create packet filters, tried to publish it, etc but so far no
success.
I ordered the book today but of course I am playing the part of an
impatient IT guy. Got to love a good technical challenge.
