Hi Mark,

When I said "stuff you're doing on the desktop" I meant on the computer
desktop, like configure ISA in a Terminal Services Window ;-)

Hi Mark,

The TechSmith codec is used when you used Camtasia. Its a really cool
program where you can do voice/video .avi's of the stuff that you're
doing on the desktop. I've made a lot of CD's that have these .avi's for
Win2k subjects, but I've never encoded them for screaming media. :-)

Check it out at www.techsmith.com

Thanks!

Hi Mark,

I'm actually using the TechSmith codec for the .avi encoding. Hmmm. I
wonder if that will break everything?

If it's a big video, you could try the DivX codec for encoding. I don't
know
if it streams, but the compression technique results in a most viewable
movie for it's size .

Just though I'd help :)

Hi Jim,

Thanks! So, I just need to encode the .avi as an .asf, and drop it in
some directory on the media server? That sounds TOO EASY :-)

BTW: you are not a hardware snob. I'm a cheapskate :-P

Hi Tom,

There is (was) a command-line utility called vidtoasf that would
convert
avi to asf for you, but it doesn't seem to be included in W2K..
You can get the WM8 encoding utility from:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/winmediatech40/wm8eu/8/w982kme/en
-us/
wm8eutil_setup.exe. I believe it replaces the old WMEv4 utilities.

Hi Jim,

I have an OT question on WMT servers. Is there a no-brainer method of
taking an .avi that I've created and slap it on a WMT server and have it
all magically work without me losing the two hairs left on my head? :-)

Thanks!

I've worked with WMT pretty extensively; what is the question?

Tom,

Does your book cover publishing WMT? Microsoft's only Q article on it
is about as clear as mud. I haven't had much luck on my own either.

I have tried many of the settings within the WMT application filter,
tried to create packet filters, tried to publish it, etc but so far no
success.

I ordered the book today but of course I am playing the part of an
impatient IT guy. Got to love a good technical challenge.
