They don't add to *my* spam problem. Why exactly do you think it is a poor
choice? I get over 2000 spam emails *per day,* just to my address, and
that is the low end. While I can see the 2000 emails generate 2000
responses to invalid addresses that never get answered, (not to mention the
NDR) and that it is more traffic that must be handled, the end result to me
is that I can actually continue to use my Thor address.
The real problem is free email services, open SMTP relays, and moron users
who get infected with SMTP Trojans. While my solution is not necessarily
magnanimous, it is manageable for me.

Your e-mail service. Sending you an e-mail results in a challenge/response message requesting verification of the sending e-mail address.
Challenge/response e-mail configurations are poor choice and actually add to the spam problem.
I do not respond to challenge/response requests.
