Jeff, I understand where you're coming from, I really do because I have a fair number of older sales people here as well... I've spent countless hours on the phone with a few of them, walking them through the simplist procedures. The thing is, if you constantly treat your users like they're stupid, they'll prove you right every time. Under Internet Explorer 5 and up, you can set up Proxy settings for the VPN connection only so it won't screw up their cable modem surfing when they're not connected to the VPN. Even if they don't use their domain login, you can still enter the domain\username info in the authentication box that pops up in IE and all will work just peachy... If you're using MS's PPTP under Win98, then the users should not be inputting their Username and PW in the DUN connection box, but instead wait for the authentication that allows them to specify the domain as well... By inputting Username and PW in the DUN connection, they may only authenticate to the RRAS server and not to the domain itself... It's a minor distinction, but it can make a big difference in how some things perform... These are old Sales guys who shouldn't even have computers, it is a poor setup because it would take me 20 minutes to explain something as simple as how to setup the info in the proxy.. Then I would get calls when they disconnect about why can't I surf on my cable modem, and I would have to tell them to uncheck the box.. I was just hoping their would be a solution so I didn't have to interupt their little worlds.. As far as not being able to monitor them, we still have the good ole boy network in place, so they don't care where they go or what they do.. They would rather buy more bandwidth than control what we have. (We are currently at 3mb for internet and can go to 10 easily.) OK, I am done griping now. Sorry about the rant, but having come from a real IT department the lack of control is frustrating sometimes at this place.. (and we can't be as choosy as we once were. huh.) ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this ISAserver.org Discussion List as: JoePochedley@xxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send a blank email to $subst('Email.Unsub')
