"but I am just curious, when the reboot gets initiated - if anything really bad
needs to happen"

Really bad generally means a blue screen of death. The options under System
Failure refer to when an unexpected shutdown or blue screen occurs.

I have Automatically reboot shutoff (unchecked) on all servers. The reasoning
behind this is we use DeepMetrix IPMonitor 6.1 http://www.deepmetrix.com to
monitor our servers, and it would be possible for a server that was constantly
rebooting over and over to do so under the 60 second monitoring window and be
missed by the monitors.

(i.e. server reboots, is up in 20 seconds, IPmon checks sees server is up waits
60 seconds, server reboots and then is up in 20 seconds, rinse wash repeat.)

If you want more Recovery options specific to services without shelling out $$
for IPMonitor or another product like it, then Right click on the My Computer
icon and select Manage. Double click on Services and Applications, then select
Services. Pick any service and double click on it, then select the Recovery
tab. There you will find a myriad of options for what to do when a service runs
into trouble.

For the money, though, you can't beat IPMonitor. Hope this information helps!

Hello All,

Just a blanket statement - saying Thank You to all that jumped on board
with this thread.

I had no idea I was going to get such a wonderful response from
everyone. I feel a LOT better now knowing that I am suggesting the
right solution to my clients.

At my present Client Site, it took a lot of convincing to kick out UNIX,
and get MS products in the door over there. I staked my reputation on
the entire thing, and it was really bumming me out, that ISA was not
performing up to specs.

Hey real quick - what is the criteria, under the Properties of "My
Computer" - and then "Advanced" -> "Startup and Recovery" regarding the
Server rebooting itself, and writing to the system log, after an
exception occurs?

Since then, I turned that option off, and the Server still has not
rebooted yet - and everything is still running perfectly. I am still
replacing the RAM when I get a chance - but I am just curious, when the
reboot gets initiated - if anything really bad needs to happen - or if
it can't be recovered from if simply ignored....

Thanks again,

Mike
