I understand your point. I just didn't see that her point had anything at all to do with ISA. So the article doesn't apply, so what? I'd be more likely to recommend VPN to my clients if VPN were not such a hassle. I'm back from a short vacation and ready to tackle my first permanent VPN tunnel from an ISA server for a client to their VAN (a VAN is the go between for EDI transactions for those that don't have to deal with these monsters). Been putting it off because I know it's going to cause me nightmares. Can you believe that the VAN requires a permanent tunnel through which to send files via FTP? I understand trying to secure FTP traffic but I really don't like the idea that we have to keep the tunnel available at all times, just in case they have a file to transfer. Will they never learn? http://www.ISAserver.org Hi Amy, Because ISA SP2 is all about branch office deployments, and that post somehow artlesses munged remote access connections with branch office connections. Why you're referring to by the virtual branch office is something I'm seeing more and more. But its not the same as branch office connectivity, where you connect an entire network to your network in a routed VPN connection. Now, that said, I like the idea of a "virtual" VPN connection between branch and main office using Web proxy chaining, Firewall chaining, and Web/Server Publishing Rules. If we could get Firewall chaining to work right... Will they never learn? http://www.ISAserver.org What does this have to do with ISA? 'Tis true that small businesses are going "virtual" instead of opening another brick and mortar branch office. I'm seeing what would have been branch offices in days gone by now operating as virtual offices. One of my clients has closed 2 branch offices in favor of the virtual office and added employees in the process. It makes sense now that high speed internet access is easier to come by. The #1, second server going into small enterprises is terminal server. But this isn't an ISA question. Will they never learn? http://www.ISAserver.org You know, I thought I read something about there being a difference between REMOTE ACCESS and BRANCH OFFICE connectivity infrastructures. I guess it was a dream, 'cause I just read this: http://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/archive/2006/02/03/82463.aspx It's been a long, arduous week and that was just about the best was to punish myself for trying to think I could survive it.
