Dear Dana.

it is with very much regret, that I'm writing to you, with
regard to the new cycling laws to which I believe will be comming in from the
25th of October, 2015. I realize that the government is trying to keep people
safe while out and about, but I don't think that this government has properly
thought this matter through, and needs to re-visit it, before it is too late
after someone has got injured or killed, and my fear with it, once brought in,
is that the road toll will climb even further.

As a person with a vision impairment, this is very dangerous for me, and and
because now, I have to use a walking frame, especially when I'm out and about
because of the portection that it affords me, after having had a broken ankle
sustained by a fall which I had at home in April last year, and after almost 5
weeks in the adelaide hospital, with a further 9 weeks in the aged care
facility for further recovery, then I did my rehabilitation at home, which was
fantastic, but the sad reallity beyond all that now, is that I have to use my
walking frame when I'm out and about. i'm 65 now, going on for 66 years of
age, of which I'll be in less than a fortnight from today, and therefore cannot
afford another accident ever again.

while I was working at the rsb's factory at Gilles plains some years ago, and
after having knocked off to go home at the time, I was walking down blacks rd,
on the footpath, and myself, together with another work colleague, we were both
knocked down by a cyclist, and when the news of our incident got around the
place at the time, the welfare officer at that time, made contact with the
police to arrange for a police officer to monitor the corner of where it
happened. there also is the other insitiution of the blind welfare association
at 1 cameron avenue,(also in gilles plains) who have blind and vision impaired
people living in their units, they, and all people need to be protected from
this rediculous legislation.

when your sight is limited, (as the case is with mine,) you cannot see the
un-eveness on the ground until a fall has happened when it's too late, and when
having to report incidents of this nature to the council, it is very difficult
to be able to establish the exact location in whcih the accident has happened,
as sometimes the

place where its happened, is not the direct location that it's expected to be,
as this has happened with me on several occasions over the years since I've
been here.

a few years later, I had another incident in which I was hit by a car, as I was
going up the north east road (on the footpath) to home as I was living at the
blind welfare units then, I had no way of identifying the number plate, and
when I had to report this matter to the police, it was very frightening, as I
had to do it, (in person) and not able to do it over the phone, once home,
thankfully though, I was ok, but somewhat shaken up because of it, my first
experience of walking into a police station ever, very daunting.

the footpaths are an absolute disgrace, espcially around in the areas of
Windsor Gardens, Hillcrest, and Gilles Plains, and (that'd be without doubt,
the same everywhere else) also, within Gilles Plains the shopping centre, that
whole area is changing to include more shops, and has been a shamozzle when
I've seen it on my travels when out and about.

this government is going against the u n convention on the rights of people
with disabilities, I want to remind all concerned that people with disabilities
have the right to live normal and fulfilling lives. people have the right to
live in the community, with choce, independence, dignity, confidence and
freedom, all of which make up for the quallity of life, and not live in
(pre-aranged circumstances, made by those responsible who have no idea of the
normal circumstances of every day life.)

I therefore am calling on the government to re-visit this matter in a different
light, but if at the end of the day, that nothing can be found to make good, so
that all will benefit from it, then please, just dump it!.

Yours Faithfully

Fay Rohrlach. "miss"
