Could you ask them to try Scalix? I've tried it and found it good. It does
use a DBMS for mailstore which was one of my major criteria. Scalix has a
lot more admin controls on the server side while Zimbra is more oriented
towards per user personalisation with far fewer admin/server side rules.

Exchange users normally prefer admin side control being strong.
