He's asking about network security - and while
crypto is a useful thing
to know in that field, it is not the only thing
around.
Read through the linux network administrators guide
(NAG) - its
available online, as well as published by o'reilly.
Yeah ,NAG and SAG are both good. But you need some
basic crypto theory to start with or else everything
will go right above your head.
And there is lot of confusion in terminology as
regards what people mean by "network security".
Does it mean SSL or IPsec?
Or does it mean IPS, IDS or firewalls?
Or does it mean Spams and viruses?
Or does it mean crypto like OpenSSL?
Or does it mean using tools like nessus,nemesis or nc?
In fact really everything related to security comes
under the broad umbrella called "network security".
And for someone asking for books or resources I
thought it pertinent to start with basic and crypto
was the least common denominator for everything.
