Hi,
Linux has many different flavors known as distributions. Examples are
RedHat, Fedora, Ubuntu, Suse, Gentoo etc. First decide which
distribution you want to use. Each of the distributions have some
differences. Some are easy to use for a new user's point of view, some
are very stable to be run as servers, some need to be compiled from
source etc. (this is what I've learned in my 2 month stint with Linux.
The gurus (I see there a quite a few of them here) please correct me if
I'm wrong)
I'd suggest Ubuntu Linux (
http://www.ubuntu.com/). It is easy to install
and use. You can download the CD image from any of the sites mentioned
here -
http://www.ubuntu.com/download . The site also has torrent files,
if you want to use BitTorrent. You can also order free CDs from -
https://shipit.ubuntu.com/. They usually take a month or two to reach you.
