I am trying to use cisco vpn client on top of bsnl dataone. I am
facing a problem with the modem provided by bsnl. The modem i am using
is ut-300r2 adsl modem. The modem is configured as a gateway. The
pppoe userid/password is configured in the modem. The NAT/Firewall is
running in the modem. When, i try to run vpn client in my machine, it
reports

I have tried it on debian sid (2.6.11) and rh9.0 (2.4.20). The result is same.
When i debugged further, i found that since firewall is running in the
modem (it seems), it is preventing my client from establishing the
connection. ie.. it rejects udp 500. Due to this, i am unable to
establish the connection. I have disabled the firewall in the modem,
saved and restarted the modem, but still i am unable to run my vpn
client.
Anybody using bsnl broadband and cisco vpn to connect to a private network ?
Can you figure out whats going wrong here ?
The problem is not with cisco vpn client. I have referred cisco vpn
client documentation.
http://www.mcmaster.ca/cis/network/software/linuxguide.pdf . I have
adopted the steps described in the document. So, i am almost certain
that the problem is not with the vpn client.
