Your best bet is to go with the ISO. That way you are sure not to miss
any files, and you could also check the MD5 checksum after downloading
to verify it.
well, burning a cd without an iso image is rather painful. for distros
like redhat, it may not work at all. also, making a bootable cd would also
be rather painful if you dont have an already bootable iso image. so, you
really dont have a choice at all, but need to go with the iso images. the
matter of md5 sum is a different issue. individual files are typically
only a few megabytes each and the chance of undetected errors is quite
small. the iso cd image is a single file of 600+ megabytes and the chance
of error is relatively higher - hence many people may consider it prudent
to do a md5 checksum comparison; for the ultra-sensitive types, sites like
rpmfind.net also provide md5 checksums for individual files. of course, if
one downloads an entire distro, running the md5 checksum comparison on
each downloaded item would be rather painful too, so we are back to iso
image...
