One of the basic requirements of language is not whether a concept can be
expressed, but how easy is it express the concept and whether we can think
anf talk in it.. Almost all the suggestions given here would be unpalatable
to a common man.. Why are we so set on a literal translation of a engilsh
term into tamil without thinking about how to express the concept in tamil?
Device = Karuvi
Driver = Iyyaki
Software = menporul (in fact, soft = men, ware = porul)

I still remember the translation from Sri, where the simple concepts have
such a convluted wording in Tamil that it is close to unusable. I do not
intend to demean the effort of translating things to Tamil, but the effort
should be aimed at having the man on the street be understand it.

Having gotten that off the chest, I realized that the confusion occurs
because the term became popular in another language first. Well, maybe when
we invent things first, we will give it a tamil name and make others
translate it into their language.
